Glacier Marriage
With GulRe, Bali leads a multidisciplinary team to scientifically investigate an indigenous water conservation practice in remote high-mountain regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. With only two surviving practitioners, this project aims to document and validate their traditional knowledge while recognising the community as experts in what could be a vital climate solution.
Context
Since May 2024, Bali has been in charge of fundraising for the GulRe. glacier marriage initiative. After, initially connecting with the team at COP28. Bali devised a strategy to get research funding to support the traditional knowledge practice of glacier marriage.
Her work on Glacier Marriage demonstrates experience in international fundraising strategy, indigenous knowledge research, and multi-institutional coordination. She secured funding from The Navigation Fund, and built strategic partnerships between the University of Aberystwyth and the University of Baltistan, while leading a multidisciplinary research initiative investigating traditional water conservation practices.
